Position Description
This position is responsible for coordinating and supporting the middle school and high school (6th-12th grade) youth ministry programs of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Meet regularly and work closely with Director of Faith Formation to deepen the spiritual formation of youth at GSLC
- Develop new ideas for service projects to strengthen focus on mission
- Implement the cooperative vision and goals for youth ministry that align with GSLC’s Mission and Strategic Vision
- Plan, attend, and lead weekly Sunday night youth group events for middle and high school youth
- Coordinate adult volunteers for youth group events and retreats
- Schedule volunteers
- Communicate regularly with volunteers regarding planning and implementation needs
- Schedule, communicate, coordinate, and attend retreats, trips, and service events for youth
- Plan and organize youth retreats, special events (lock-ins, etc.), and all youth trips (summer, spring break, etc.)
- Receive and organize all paperwork associated with youth events
- Regularly attend and participate in Youth Ministry Team meetings and weekly Staff meetings (as needed)
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
- A commitment to the Christian faith, desire to grow in relationship with Jesus Christ, and basic understanding of the theology of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
- Age 21 years or older
- Strong leadership skills coupled with ability to work cooperatively on a team
- Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults
- Ability to manage time efficiently (This position requires night and weekend commitments, as well as several week-long summer trips)
- Creativity and vision to help reach youth and strengthen youth ministry program
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Some college preferred
